Overview
Yusmarg (Meadow of Jesus, local legend) is a quiet alpine meadow surrounded by pine forests and snow-capped peaks in the distance. Less commercial than Gulmarg — good for travellers seeking open space without theme-park crowds. Best as a relaxed half-day or day trip.
Getting there
Roughly 47 km from Srinagar, 2–2.5 hours by road. Cab day trip: ₹2,500–₹4,000. Last road section may involve local union transport rules — your driver will handle transfers at the checkpoint if applicable.
Activities
Easy meadow walks, picnic under pines, pony rides to nearby viewpoints like Nilnag (small lake, extra time needed). Fishing permits available seasonally. Carry packed lunch — food options on site are basic.
Who it suits
Families with children, older travellers, and anyone who finds Gulmarg too busy. Not a substitute for Gondola or glacier views — combine Yusmarg with main circuit sights rather than replacing them. Accessible mainly April to November.
