The main three
Nishat Bagh (Garden of Bliss): largest terraced garden, Dal Lake views, allow 1 hour. Shalimar Bagh: built by Jahangir, famous fountains (active in season), allow 1 hour. Chashme Shahi: compact garden around a natural spring — quick 30-minute visit.
Pari Mahal
A terraced Mughal garden and viewpoint above Chashme Shahi with panoramic Srinagar and Dal views. Less floral than Nishat but excellent for sunset photography. Allow 45 minutes including the drive up.
Half-day routing
Morning plan: Chashme Shahi, then Nishat, then Shalimar — all lie along the eastern lake road. Total time 3–4 hours with photography. Afternoons get busier with tour groups. Combine with a shikara ride the same day if energy permits.
Best season and tips
Spring (April) and autumn (October) are most photogenic. Fountains in Shalimar run when water supply allows — ask locally. Wear comfortable walking shoes — terraces involve steps and slopes.
Mughal garden Srinagar entry fee
Each garden typically charges about ₹20–₹50 per adult (children often less). Nishat, Shalimar and Chashme Shahi are separate tickets. Camera fees are uncommon; keep small cash. A half-day cab for the gardens loop is usually ₹1,000–₹1,800 plus parking. Confirm rates on the day — they can change by season.
