What makes Gurez special
Gurez lies along the Kishanganga river near the Line of Control, with wooden villages, alpine meadows, and the dramatic Habba Khatoon peak backdrop. Far less visited than the main circuit — ideal for travellers who have already seen Srinagar, Gulmarg, and Pahalgam and want raw landscape.
Access and timing
Reach via Bandipora and Razdan Pass from Srinagar — about 123 km and 5–6 hours one way. Razdan Pass opens roughly May to October; closed in deep winter. Minimum 2 nights recommended (one en route, one in Gurez). Confirm road status before travel.
What to see
Dawar town as base, Kishanganga river walks, Tulail Valley extension for deeper exploration, starry nights with minimal light pollution, and interaction with local Dard-Shin culture. No luxury tourism infrastructure — expect basic guesthouses and homestays.
